What is the Gospel?

The Gospel is the good news of how God has sought us out and saved us from our sins through Jesus Christ. Below you’ll find some videos and explanations to help you understand the Gospel story a bit more and an encouragement to respond what you discover here.

Creation

The Bible teaches that there is one God who is 100% good and who has always existed. In His wisdom, He created the heavens and the earth and filled them with life. As the pinnacle of His creative act, He made the first humans, Adam and Eve, He blessed them and placed them in a paradise called the Garden of Eden. In Eden, humanity enjoyed a perfect relationship with God, with each other, and with creation itself. Everything was very good.

Fall

Despite the goodness of God’s creation and their close relationship with Him, humanity chose to rebel against God’s loving rule. Their rebellion introduced sin and brokenness into the world causing a separation between us and God, leading to spiritual and physical death and corruption. All the pain and suffering in the world today is a result of this rebellion which each of us still participates in. Because we brought death into God’s good creation our penalty was death.

Redemption

But God so loved the world that he initiated a plan to rescue it from the corruption of sin. In his grace and mercy, he sent his one and only Son, Jesus Christ, who was fully God and fully human, to live a perfect life and sacrifice Himself on the cross in our place to save us from the penalty of our rebellion, our sin.  He also overcame death itself rising from the dead three days later and appearing to hundreds of witnesses. By placing our faith in Jesus and His completed work on the cross, our sins are forgiven, we are reunited with God, and given everlasting life.

Restoration

The story doesn’t end here, however. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, those who place their faith in Jesus, are being transformed into the image of Christ little-by-little until the day Jesus returns and restores all creation, freeing it from evil and the corruption of sin. When this happens everyone who has placed their faith in Jesus will forevermore enjoy perfect relationships with God, with each other, and with creation itself, as it was always meant to be.

How will you respond?

We all relate to God, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a healthy relationship.

As you saw above, God created people to enjoy a perfect relationship with Him in which we would find everything we needed for eternal life and joy. But all relationships can be damaged, and it was when humanity chose to reject God as their king and take charge for themselves that our relationship with God was drastically changed. We became lost and experienced spiritual and physical death because of our own sinful choices, separated from the only one who could give us eternal life and endless joy.

But God had a plan to mend our relationship with Him. Motivated by His abundant love and mercy, He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to live the life we should have lived and die the death that we should have suffered, to make a way back into relationship with God the Father.

God’s arms are open wide to you, and we have this amazing opportunity to say yes to God and embrace Him as the one who saves us and leads us to everlasting life. How will you respond to God’s offer of new life?

You can come back to God right now. If you’re ready to experience a healthy relationship with God, He’s ready too. Every good relationship is founded on honesty and as you pray (talk to God), you can honestly admit to Him the things you’ve done that have damaged your relationship with Him (the various ways you’ve rejected God’s authority).

Next, you can take some time to express your belief in Jesus Christ as the Lord of your life and the Saviour of your Soul. Take some time to thank the one who died and rose again that you might enjoy a loving relationship with God for eternity. Don’t worry about trying to say the perfect words – if your heart is sincere God will welcome you into a new life-changing relationship.
